Blood on the Dance Floor made a horror video!
Not only have Dahvie and Jayy made a mini horror movie for their new song 'Damaged", but they've made it as an extreme horror movie with some lovely torture at the end too. Bloody brilliant! This'll keep the haters busy for a while!
From some of things Dahvie Vanity has been saying on Twitter, and knowing his taste in movies, I had a feeling that he would do something like this eventually. It was still a nice surprise to see it actually happen though.
Directed by Rob Zombie's cinematographer Patrick Fogerty, "Damaged" boasts some impressively mean-spirited gore which is above and beyond what you'd normally see in a music video. The CGI fire and blood splatter effects give away that "Damaged" isn't a big-budget production, and it's a bit tongue-in-cheek (or tongue-in-a-pair-of-forceps to be precise), but posting it on YouTube is bound to be controversial.
Although a more cohesive storyline would have sorted out the slight incongruity between the style of the song itself and the visuals, the practical effects are used well, and the message that the boys want to get across is pretty clear. The "Bad Blood" album is very much Blood on the Dance Floor's love letter to their critics, and their fans will love this!
I don't expect "Damaged" to be available on YouTube for long until some prude or hater flags it, so watch it while you can!
Also check out Blood on the Dance Floor's official website at www.ilovebotdf.com.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2013 is coming!

So far I've only picked three favourites (out of four), but it's still early days yet.
1. Zlata Ognevich - Gravity (Ukraine)
Fantastic, but she needs to get rid of her overloud backing singers.
2. Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops (Denmark)
A mixture of Shakira and The Cranberries perhaps?
3. Danica Muscat - Fantasy (Malta)
I'm not completely sold on this, but she's pretty like Martine McCutcheon used to be.
4. Alyona Lanskaya - Rhythm of Love (Belarus)
Catchy, very catchy. Probably won't win though.
Have you seen or heard anything that you like?

MySpace is back! And I love it!
It's not really like it was when it was good 8 years ago, but the new MySpace is potentially awesome! I'm back on it and loving every minute of it!
Although it could do with a few more tweaks, a lot more music, and some kind of help guide to show new people how to use the features, it's a huge step in the right direction. As you can see, I've even got a massive picture of my Willow on there!
If you are one of the cool kids, the new MySpace is like a side-scrolling version of Pinterest or Tumblr but with music instead of pictures. Hopefully, there'll be lots of new videos too if all the artists who already have accounts finally update their profiles. I would love to see MySpace give YouTube a good kick in the balls. I'm sick to death of watching all the mediocre money whores with audiences made up of schoolkids, and mush-mouthed movie reviewers with crazy teeth who tell the plots in their own words or repeat themselves retardedly to fill up their 15 minute vlogs. Most of all, I can't stand adverts on videos.
Will MySpace replace Facebook? Who cares about that crap? Facebook is so 2008. Does anyone still use it except to play games, bitch about their lives or post LOLcats? All I get on there is a load of fairweather followers who get butthurt over the slightest dig at one of their "special films" as if they've made them themselves instead of only buying them on DVD. For social networking, I'm still on Twitter (the world's biggest and most one-sided chatroom), and I've rejoined Vampire Freaks so I can grab the bands I like from there and add their music to my playlists (mixes) on MySpace. Maybe I won't lose my VF account for inactivity again this time.
Since I've been ill, I've lost all interest in horror blogging, and now that I've rediscovered MySpace, I can't really see any way that I'm going to return to regularly writing things on here which nobody apart from trolls, spammers and stalkers ever reads. Something has changed for the worse with the Blogger editor too. It doesn't refresh properly as I'm typing so I have to keep scrolling up and down to see what I've just written. I don't have the patience for it. I'd rather listen to music. Nice, melodic pop music and electronic stuff.
Let's face it, I've only continued to write this blog for the paltry Amazon affiliate sales which have continued to drop to only slightly above nothing. I'm not going to get rich or famous out of being a horror blogger so I might as well just enjoy myself with what the rest of the internet has to offer instead of wasting my time on here. Blogging had its heyday 3 years ago. New bloggers might as well give up before they even begin.
Nobody reads or cares anymore. Blogger is now just a popularity contest where success is rated by the number of avatars in the GFC widget. It's all follow-for-follow even if the person you follow can't write for shit and is, quite frankly, an embarrassment to the blogosphere. I haven't enjoyed blogging or watching horror movies for a very long time. It probably shows. It's taken a while, but I've grown out of both.
Is this the end of "Dr Blood's Video Vault" on Blogger? Maybe. The URL will expire this year, and I've got no great desire to renew it. I'll probably let it go back to the default blogspot address. Unless I see something that I absolutely have to write about such as the new "Mama" movie or the "Evil Dead" remake, then I've got nothing left to tell you. Horror and horror blogging is dead.

Music for Hallowe'en - part 2 - We're Having a Party!

Even though it won't be Hallowe'en until Wednesday, I know that a lot of people are too impatient and will be having their Hallowe'en parties this weekend.
Here are some more songs to get you in the mood.
1. Igor's Night Off - We're Having a Party!
The quintessential Hallowe'en party record. Annie Nightingale used to play this on Radio 1 every time her Sunday show fell on Hallowe'en.
2. Aural Vampire - Freeeeze!!
Everyone knows "Darkwave Surfer", but I'm sure you'd rather see the pretty girl all vampired-up rather than watch a lyrics video.
3. Jennifer Rush - I See a Shadow (Not a Fantasy)
When I first heard this, it made me think of vampires. I have no idea if it really is supposed to be about vampires though.
4. Aqua - Halloween
There's a better video here where some girls do an amazing job of miming to the song. It's a shame that Aqua never made an official video for it themselves.
5. And One - Traumfrau
Their video for "Sometimes" is far creepier, but I thought you'd enjoy this one more.

Music for Hallowe'en - part 1 - Blood on the Dance Floor
Since all my recent movie reviews have been turning this blog into a poor man's version of the IMDb, I thought I'd break things up a bit with an occasional series of music videos. Having been given a shoutout on JJAMZ official Facebook page after mentioning their "Heartbeat" video, it has inspired me to write about other bands who I've discovered during my various internet surfing sprees.
I've only just heard about "Blood on the Dance Floor". I'm not sure what to make of them yet, but I thought their latest song was appropriate for the Hallowe'en season - plus, of course, the band name has "blood" in it.
Maybe the video doesn't really count as horror even though the lead singer, Dahvie Vanity, is quite horrible to look at unless you are into "scene" or "emos" or whatever the hell they are, but I kind of like the song. It's nothing amazing musically, but it's okay for a pop song, and not what I was expecting the band to sound like. At least it's not some nasty heavy metal crap which every other stereotypical horror fan seems to be into.
Apparently, "Blood on the Dance Floor" have attracted a lot of online hate due to various allegations against Dahvie Vanity, but I couldn't really care less about any of that drama. As far as I can tell, there isn't any truth to any of the rumours, and most of the insults flying around seem to be fuelled by jealousy.

| "You're attractive, little witch, you're beautiful." |
I don't know who Lady Nogrady is other than being the pretty girl in the video, but some people say that she was in a movie called "Poe". I can't find any further details about it, although I assume that it was about Edgar Allan Poe. That's good enough for me.
Part of me thinks that "Blood on the Dance Floor" are some kind of joke act rather a bunch of serious musicians, but the same was said of "Aqua" and look how well they did.

JJAMZ made a horror video!
Did you know that there's going to be a new MySpace? Neither did I until yesterday when an article on the BBC news site encouraged me to click this link. That was where I heard "Heartbeat" by JJAMZ for the first time, and, I have to say, it was the most appropriate song MySpace could have ever chosen for their promotional video.
Because I liked the music (and had never heard of JJAMZ before), I really wanted to see if the lead singer looked as good as she sounded. After a quick Google search, I followed JJAMZ through to YouTube where I found their "Official Music Video" (above).
You cannot possibly imagine my delight when I found that the lead singer, Elizabeth Berg, was absolutely gorgeous, and they'd turned "Heartbeat" into a little horror movie! Too many good things in one day!

Elizabeth "Z" Berg, the former lead vocalist of the indie rock group "The Like" (nope, never heard of them before either), not only ticks every box for me as the kind of singer who I like, but she's beautiful enough to be a real scream queen too. Based on this video, I wouldn't mind seeing her in a full length horror movie one day.

The results of the second semi-final are now in so, coupled with the winners of the first semi-final, here is the line up for the not-so-grand final on Saturday.
I've highlighted the ones I like in red. We will see if I managed to predict the top four.

| 24 | Serbia | Željko Joksimović | Nije Ljubav Stvar |
| 25 | Ukraine | Gaitana | Be My Guest |
| 26 | Moldova | Pasha Parfeny | Lăutar |
Unfortunately, the results of the Eurovision Song Contest are never based on the quality of the music. It will be the usual shenanigans with all the European countries voting for their political allies and neighbours so absolutely anything could happen.
The Grand Final starts on Saturday, May 26th at 8pm (GMT) and ends around 11.15pm. If you don't have access to the BBC, you can watch the whole thing live online at the Eurovision website (presumably by using the Octoshape plugin yet again) or on the official YouTube channel later on.
Of course, if you have no desire to make this your appointment television for the weekend, you can always watch the playlist of all 42 contestants (below) and save yourself from having to listen to Graham Norton babbling and cackling.
They didn't think it through really, did they? Now that we all have the internet, there's no reason to watch what was once Europe's most highly viewed show on TV ever again.
Who do you think will win? More to the point, do you even care?

Eurovision Song Contest 2012 Semi-Final (2)
As you may have guessed, there will be no horror reviews this week due to my annual Eurovision Song Contest fandom. I love this stuff and tonight (or this afternoon if you are watching it in the USA) is the night of the second semi-final.
My favourite to win this round of musical nastiness is Gaitana (representing the Ukraine). Although it uses the trumpet blasts of fellow Ukrainian Ruslana's "Wild Dances" (which won in 2004), the song has been criticized for sounding too "African". I like it but, just as the critics say, it's not European enough. I still loathe Paul Simon's "Graceland" album though.
If Jedward hadn't already found the most garish motorcycle gear, Litesound (representing Belarus) would have been notable for their spectacularly hot (and sweaty) leather outfits. Even though they sing, "We are the winners", it ain't gonna happen. They'll probably go through to the final anyway.
Joan (representing the Netherlands) is the novelty act which will go through just to rival Engelbert Humperdinck's retro British entry. This is like a horrible fusion of Nicole (from 1982), Brotherhood of Man (from 1976), The Cranberries, and The Village People. It'll definitely go through because she's pretty.
Of course, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Azerbaijan, have already qualified due to putting up most of the money for the contest. It isn't fair but nothing ever is. Ironically, all their songs are awful (apart from a passable entry by France) and none of them will win unless the voting is rigged.

Ivi Adamou is through to the Eurovision final!
Ivi Adamou flew through the semi-final (as I knew she would), but she still has to go on and win the Eurovision Song Contest to make me truly happy for five minutes.

Hopefully, once she becomes world famous, she can give up singing and replace her lookalike, Liv Tyler, in movies. She already has more facial expressions.

Eurovision Song Contest 2012 Semi-Final (1)
The first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest is tomorrow night. As usual, it's mostly a load of crap.
I've already written about her on here but Ivi Adamou (representing Cyprus) is the clear winner of not only this semi-final but the entire Eurovision Song Contest itself. She has to be. I've decided. It must be so.
Obviously, Russia don't want to win. I wouldn't be suprised if one of their old grandmothers drops dead on stage. It would be hilariously tragic though.
Thus, even Jedward (representing Ireland) might stand a chance this year. At least they look the part.
It's going to be interesting to see what other musical dreck goes through to the final just for padding.

Music Monday? I bring you "Dr Blood's Audio Vault"
I've often wanted to include something about music on my blog but, due to the nature of what I usually write about, it just wouldn't work here. Also my eclectic musical taste is so hugely different from the stereotypical "heavy metal" that American horror fans (in particular) like to listen to that it would really seem really out of place to most people.
Another problem I discovered with having a "Music Monday" (such as several other bloggers have done) is that I am in no way a "music journalist". I don't know all the ins and outs of the music industry, the various labels, the names of the band members or anything about music at all other than what I like.
Actually, that's not completely true. When I was eleven, I had piano lessons and, I suppose, if really pushed, I could call myself a keyboardist even though I haven't played in public for over 20 years. Other than being a human musical box who just plays back the music from the sheet in front of him, I am in no way musically gifted and have realised that I have no talent in that area whatsoever.
Thus, I have created "Dr Blood's Audio Vault" as a sister site to this one. It's really only a playlist of music which I like and which has a decent enough video with it. I'm more of a visual person than an audiophile.
I'm not completely sure what I'm going to do on that blog apart from populating it with YouTube videos of hot (mostly female) singers as I really know very little about the artists I like, but, if you ever wanted an insight into my musical taste, there it is.
If you want the occasional random music video to pop up in your Google Reader or Blogroll then please follow "Dr Blood's Audio Vault".
Who knows? You might even discover something new there which you like.

At last, some new horror - Eurovision 2012
I'm baaa-ack!
Well, I finally gave in and have decided to start blogging on here again. I haven't watched any new horror movies and have no interest in the latest Harry Potter ghost story or any of that faux found footage crap, but it's nearly time for the Eurovision Song Contest! Yes, this is real horror!
My favourite to win so far is Gaitana with "Be My Guest".
Ruslana was the last Ukrainian entry who I remember winning and the trumpets in the opening bars of this song homage "Wild Dances".
If Gaitana doesn't win, my second favourite is Ivi Adamou with "La La Love". She's gorgeous.
Don't you think that she looks like a really good mixture of Michelle Rodriquez and Liv Tyler?

Crispin Glover's Ben Video from Willard (2003)
"A young man with an unusual connection with rats, uses them at his own sociopathic will."
This is an extra on the DVD and at the end of the VHS version after the film itself.
Even though it's a remake, I think Crispin Glover did a great job and I like it more than the 1971 original. This cover of Michael Jackson's "Ben" is pretty good too.

Lady Gaga is still a one hit wonder
I was listening to Lady Gaga's new album, "Born This Way", earlier and as much as I tried to like any of the tracks on it, I couldn't.
There are no particularly catchy songs such as "Bad Romance", "Poker Face" or even "Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" (from "The Fame Monster" and "The Fame" albums respectively) and, to be absolutely blunt about it, "Born This Way" is probably the most boring and generic thing that Lady Gaga has created so far.
Basically, I don't think that Lady Gaga is likely to make anything as good as "Bad Romance" ever again. If one song defines her whole career, she could do a lot worse but I really wish she'd get away from all that horrible "R&B" sound-alike crap and bring out another dance-pop masterpiece.
But what do I care anyway? I just like the way she looks.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2011
I just thought I'd post my favourites (such as they are) from the appalling Eurovision Song Contest entries for 2011. Yeah, I know that it has nothing much to do with horror movies (Lordi, anyone?) but, as this will probably be the first year ever that I can't be bothered to watch the whole event, I thought it was blogworthy.
Lucia Perez - Que me quiten lo bailao (Spain)
Dana International - Ding Dong (Israel)
Kati Wolf - What about my dreams (Hungary)
Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam (Finland)
Getter Jaani - Rockefeller Street (Estonia)
Anastasiya Vinnikova - I Love Belarus (Belarus)
Emmy - Boom Boom (Armenia)
I haven't posted the videos in any particular order since there weren't even enough good songs out of the 43 entries for me to make a top ten.
I'm often guilty of choosing songs just because there are pretty European girls in them and I admit that it almost hurts me this year to leave out a couple of songs which couldn't be redeemed by the attractiveness of the singers. Hey, it's a song contest not a beauty contest after all.
If you want to see all the other songs before May 14th, the official website has a preview player created from a YouTube playlist. The best thing about it is that you don't need to mess about with the usual octoshape plugin or waste a Saturday evening on this horror.
Just to make this post horror related here's a song that didn't make it through the semi-finals a couple of years ago followed by one that won the whole thing the year before that.
DJ Bobo - Vampires Are Alive (Switzerland)
Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finland)
I used to love the Eurovision Song Contest but this year makes me sad. Have you chosen your favourites yet? What do you think about the Eurovision Song Contest? Let me know in the comments below or on my message board.

Control (2007)
As a big fan of Joy Division I really wanted to like this but it was woefully inadequate as a biopic of Ian Curtis and was even worse as just a film in its own right.
Most of the actors look very similar to the members of Joy Division especially James Anthony Pearson as Bernard Sumner. The problem is that they don't really act like them. That's not to say that Sam Riley doesn't do an excellent job as Ian Curtis but it just feels wrong and he comes across as a particularly dull person. Too much time is spent on trying to get the little anecdotal stories into the picture rather than showing him as the musician.
I also found the beginning of the film slightly confusing as it went from Ian at school to suddenly being in a band with no real explanation as to how and why he got there. Joy Division fans already know the story but I think the film would have benefited from showing Joy Division (or Warsaw as they were then known) in their pre-Tony Wilson days.
I'm surprised at how many things were left out too. If you aren't a fan then you'll need to do a lot of background reading to fill in the gaps. For instance, the story of how they sacked their first manager, got him to check the tyre on the car and sped off and left him, was completely missing yet is still one of the most amusing from their early days. The only light relief comes from Tony Kebbell as their plain-speaking manager Rob Gretton. It is a very depressing film otherwise but I suppose it can't really go any other way since we all know how things will end.
I didn't like Samantha Morton in the role of Deborah Curtis either. They made her out to be far too frumpy in comparison to Alexandra Maria Lara (as Annik) who just oozed Belgian sexiness from every pore (even if she is Romanian!).
Anyway, I suppose it's not the worst biopic ever. It's just not a particularly exceptional one. There's a good chunk of Joy Division's music in it which is performed surprisingly well by Sam Riley (rather than lip-syncing to the original vocals) and that's what everyone really cares about anyway.
