The Beast of Bray Road (2005)

Based on actual accounts of werewolf sightings in Walworth County, Wisconsin, the film follows a local sheriff who is finally forced to accept that a string of horrifying deaths is linked to a predator which possesses DNA of both man and wolf.

I can't believe this was only made in 2005, it's just so incredibly 90s-ish and more than a bit amateur.

It's a werewolf film supposedly based on actual accounts of werewolf sightings in Walworth County, Wisconsin... er, yeah, whatever. Are people nuts? There's even a book out about this nonsense!

As a B movie pretending to be better than it is, it actually looks quite well shot at times. That is until you see that the "werewolf" is just someone dressed up in a hairy costume. It's supposed to be a real werewolf though, really, it is.

The acting is dire at times, the pacing is all over the place and the story is ludicrous but the girls are all pretty. Unfortunately the only one I really wanted to see get naked, the brunette woman who runs the bar, didn't.

The real giveaway to the age of the film is that most of the actors sport the now trendy "tattoos" and one otherwise pretty blonde has disfigured herself with one on her boob. Nice... not! Not that her character lasts long. She gets her leg bitten off and overacts for a few seconds afterwards. It would have been a nasty scene if it hadn't been so similar to the scene before it where her boyfriend is eaten too. Shame.

I didn't completely hate all of it but I was very bored with the sheriff's department characters trying to play it for laughs which didn't work at all. All the characters in the film appear to be drunks or stereotypical "rednecks" or both! I also got fed up with the story mainly focusing on the sheriff and his "investigation" which doesn't exactly follow any known police procedures. Lots more vignettes of people getting eaten might have made it more interesting.

It's worth a watch if you can't find anything else but, to be brutally honest, there are a lot of other werewolf films in the world which are much better... even "The Howling" series! Also, if you've ever seen "Silver Bullet", the ending of this won't surprise you at all.
