Creep (2004)

"Trapped in a London subway station, a woman who's being pursued by a potential attacker heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets."

Despite being filmed on a limited budget this could have been so good but, far from being scary or jumpy, "Creep" is the sort of film that begins badly and just keeps getting worse.

The plot is so contrived that nothing about it makes any sense. Quite why Kate (Franka Potente) would be left alone to sleep on the platform is left unexplained, and how her lecherous boss finds her there so easily with only one thing on his mind is another contrivance that just makes you wonder what the script writer was thinking.

Most of the action scenes seem shot from the wrong angle and there are some gratuitously nasty moments which are lingered over for far too long. It's not that I usually complain about such things but there is a point where the scene needs to move on.

The Creep's origins are also never really satisfactorily explained although there are enough clues for the audience to make up their own minds that the writer hadn't worked out a complete back story either.

What could have been a very tense stalk and slash "Alien-like" thriller just degraded into formulaic stuff with far too much reliance on blood and gore to cover up all the ludicrous holes in the plot. I didn't completely hate it even so.
