April Fool's Day (1986)

"A group of nine college students staying at a friend's remote island mansion begin to fall victim to an unseen murderer over the April Fool's day weekend."

This is one of those thriller-type films that should have been more horrible than it is but it has its moments. It just feels good, sort of like a "Columbo" episode on a wet Sunday afternoon.

The girls in "April Fool's Day" are very pretty, especially the two Deborahs (Foreman and Goodrich), and the practical jokes are wonderfully sick. There are also some amusing lines to quote from Harvey (Jay Baker) too.

Because "April Fool's Day" homages "Friday the 13th" and has a Canadian feel about it (unsurprisingly really due to the location), the film is highly underrated. The twist is quite original and there's a happy ending which I don't think was what was first intended but it still works very well.

It almost goes without saying that this is much better than the horrible 2008 remake but I'm sure that there are some people who would write both of them off for not really being horror films.
