Upcoming Horror Movie - The Collection (2012)

"A man who escapes from the vicious grips of the serial killer known as The Collector is blackmailed to rescue an innocent girl from the killer's booby-trapped warehouse."

I didn't like the "The Collector" all that much and have zero interest in seeing a movie from the writers of the worst of the "Saw" sequels.

When will the marketers learn that promoting a new movie by creditting ones which everybody despises is unlikely to have horror fans flocking to the cinema in droves?

At least it's not "From the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious" which we've seen at least five posters proclaim in the last year. I suppose the good thing about this stupidity is that it's easy to know what to avoid.

If you need to have your mind made up even further just watch the trailer. It looks like a load of arse, doesn't it? "Aliens" plot rip-off much?

Have you ever seen such an uninspired poster either?

I'll be continuing to plow through the Pendulum Pictures multipacks instead. I'm over half-way through "Tomb of Terrors" now in case you wondered what I've been doing. They may be awful, but they cost the same for 50 movies as a ticket to see only one piece of crap like this which I know I'll hate even more.

Upcoming Horror Movie - Live-In Fear (2012)

"In the snowy Utah mountains, an ancient being terrorizes four friends as they try to survive."

I can't quite work out what "Live-In Fear" is supposed to be about from the trailer so I don't know if it's a supernatural horror or a slasher.

In an attempt to discover more, I even broke one of my unwritten rules and asked for a screener a few weeks ago. Since I have yet to receive one, I'm assuming the worst about this movie already, but I do like the poster.

Among others, "Live-In Fear" stars Arielle Brachfield and Maria Olsen who were both in "The Haunting of Whaley House" (2012) which I've already favourably reviewed.

According to the IMDb page, "Live-In Fear" was written and directed by Brandon Scullion and had an estimated budget of $50,000.

I know what you're thinking because I'm thinking it too. "Live-In Fear" will probably be little more than a glorified YouTube video which everyone ends up watching on Netflix when they've run out of real horror movies. But should a screener for it ever turn up, I'm still prepared to give it a chance.

Upcoming Horror Movie - Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)

"The film takes place five years after Paranormal Activity 2, which ended with Katie kidnapping Hunter. It follows the life of Alice, her boyfriend Ben and her mother, as paranormal activity starts to occur in their home when Katie and Hunter (now called Robbie) move into the neighbourhood. A laptop is one of the techniques in the film, as well as the Kinect as seen from the trailers. After Katie goes to the hospital Alice's Mother takes Robbie (Hunter) in, which leads to strange occurrences around the house." (from Wikipedia)

Much to the delight of everyone who likes boobies, wobbly camerawork, and horror movies with only three strategically placed jump scares, Katie Featherstone will be back in "Paranormal Activity 4". Let's face it, she's the only reason any of us will watch this except to bitch about it, right guys?

You know I'm not a big fan of the "Paranormal Activity" movies. Basically, when "Paranormal Activity" replaced the "Saw" franchise as the must see Hallowe'en movie every year, it was the beginning of the end as far as the brief reawakening of the horror genre was concerned.

Even though I'm not privileged (or sycophantic) enough to have already seen a workprint of "Paranormal Activity 4", I can already tell from the (possibly misleading) trailer that it will be one of the most disappointing things this year, I'll still be right there with you (in spirit) watching this feeble alternative to a physical "haunted house" though. It's not yet rated, but it's bound to be another PG-13 so it won't be any worse than the last three in the series, will it? Ugh!

According to the official website, "Paranormal Activity 4" is due to be released on October 19th, 2012. You have been warned!

Upcoming Horror Movie - House at the End of the Street (2012)

"A mother and daughter move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over."

According to the IMDb and Wikipedia, "House at the End of the Street" is rated PG-13. I know what you're thinking because I'm thinking it too, but, having seen the trailer (above), it actually looks quite promising.

Hopefully, this movie will push the limits of the PG-13 rather than be something made for that rating and its target audience. Having one of the stars of "The Hunger Games", Jennifer Lawrence, in it might doom it to failure, but there's always the possibility that it could be good. There really have been some scary PG-13 rated horror movies before, you know.

I haven't seen Elisabeth Shue (who plays Jennifer Lawrence's mother) in anything that I've completely enjoyed since "Link" (1986) so this may be one of her last chances to redeem herself. Although she was okay in "Hollow Man" (2000) and "Piranha 3D" (2010), the latter made me feel sad for her that she was in what was essentially a Summer comedy rather than something more memorable.

I don't know anything about Max Thieriot because I've never seen or heard of him before. I looked him up, but I refuse to watch the universally hated "My Soul to Take" (2010) to find out if he can actually act in a horror movie. I don't think that would be fair on anyone.

If "House at the End of the Street" turns out to be yet another trendy teenage horror full of pretties and devoid of plot then it might just be the end of horror movies completely for a lot of us. Rumour has it that it's more of a thriller than a horror anyway so the makers have already covered themselves by suggesting that this will not be a formulaic slasher.

Anyway, there's a little while to go before we can find out what it's like. "House at the End of the Street" is scheduled to be released on September 21st, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) HD Exclusive Featurette

Fascinating stuff, isn't it?

Yeah, I know it has nothing to do with horror but I didn't actually make it to the pawn shop yesterday to buy any more films to review so this is all I have to offer as a Sunday post.

I'm really looking forward to "The Dark Knight Rises". I'm a big fan of Batman, but an even bigger one of Catwoman (as you already know). Ah, who am I kidding? I just want to ogle Anne Hathaway like everyone else does.

Meow!!! Yeah, she makes my Dark Knight rise alright.

In other news, I've been updating "The Bloody Horror Store" which now has a graphical link to it in the side column. I added a few more horror items here and there which may interest you. You aren't even reading this though now that you've seen that big pic of Anne Hathaway, are you?

Tomorrow, I'll review something. I'm not sure what yet because I wanted to do a month of ghostie films and I'm not really in the mood for any of them.
